Baseball wins season opener against Purdue 17-6

Western Carolina wins seventh straight season opener and tenth in to begin 2015 season at Childress Field/Hennon Stadium.

2016 (Senior): Started each of the 60 games in which he saw action with 57 starts in left field and three as the designated hitter ... Finished the year second on the team among the regulars with a .340 batting average, collecting 81 hits in 238 at bats ... His 81 hits ranked tied for ninth in the SoCon ... Recorded 21 extra base hits including 10 doubles, three triples and eight home runs ... Led the Catamounts -- and ranked tied for fourth in the SoCon -- with 65 RBI ... Paced the SoCon after being hit by 18 pitches, tied for fourth in WCU's single-season record books ... Was a two-time Southern Conference Player of the Week honoree ... Collected his first weekly honor on March 28 by batting . 625 with 10 base hits including three for extra bases at North Carolina (March 22) and at home against ETSU (March 24-26) ... Picked up his second weekly honor from the SoCon on April 11, batting .636 (7-for-11) with five of his hits going for extra bases including three home runs in the three-game sweep of VMI (April 8-10) ... Collected Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball following his VMI series ... Named second team All-Southern Conference by the league's head coaches ... Earned Southern Conference All-Tournament team honors after batting .407 (11-of-27) with a team-best nine RBI in WCU's championship run ... Had a career-best six-game hitting streak from April 17 through 24, batting 12-for-25 (.480) with five multi-hit games with three extra base hits ... Drove in a career-best seven in a 2-for-4, two home run performance at Samford (May 10) including belting his first career grand slam homer ... Named to the 2014-15 SoCon Academic Honor Roll; Summer League: Played for the SLO Blues of the California Collegiate League ... Claimed team player of the game honors after helping SLO to a 5-3 win with a three-RBI triple on July 12 ... Played in 17 games, batting .193 (11-for-57) with two home runs and 10 runs scored ... Also had five RBI.

Prior to Western Carolina: Played at Cypress College in Cypress, Calif., for head coach Scott Pickler before transferring to WCU ... Was a All-Orange Empire Conference ... As a sophomore, played in 35 games with a .304 batting average, collecting 42 hits including 11 doubles, three triples and four home runs ... Drove in 24 runs while scoring 22 times ... Added three stolen bases; At Ellensburg HS: Was a two-sport standout, playing football and baseball ... Was a three-time all-state selection at wide receiver between his sophomore and senior seasons, additionally earning all-state plaudits as a pitcher and outfielder on the diamond as a senior ...
